Storm Chasers Rout the Express to Win, 12-5

PAPILLION, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers put up runs in every inning aside from the sixth and seventh to put away the Round Rock Express on Saturday night, 12-5. Rehabbing Kansas City Royal Chris Getz, Tony Abreu and Irving Falu each contributed offensively with two RBI apiece.

Ryan Verdugo (4-1) picked up his fourth win of the year as he worked through six innings and allowed two runs, neither of which were earned.

The second batter of the game, Round Rock's (27-36) Matt Kata reached on an error by Irving Falu and then scored on a Leonys Martin triple. Martin then crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Spilborghs. Derrick Robinson singled in the first, advanced to third on Chris Getz' single and scored on a double play that Wil Myers hit into. Omaha (38-25) tied the game at 2-2 in the second when Anthony Seratelli homered.

An Abreu single in the third plated Getz and Myers to extend the Chasers' lead to 4-2. Omaha tacked on three runs in the fourth when Robinson doubled in Falu and Getz doubled to right to score Cody Clark and Robinson. The Chasers seized a 9-2 lead in the fifth after Falu's two-run bomb to left field.

The Express carved out a lone run in the seventh and two in the eighth to close the gap to 9-5 but Omaha would not be denied and tallied three final insurance runs in the eighth. Kurt Mertins kicked off the scoring in the eighth with his RBI single to center field that scored Falu and Robinson. Mertins then came in to score on Wil Myers' single to center.

Omaha and Round Rock will play the final contest of their four-game series on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Sunday's showdown will feature the third annual Diamond Dig presented by Borsheims. The first 200 women to sign up at Borsheims' table will get the opportunity to dig for diamonds in the infield with a spoon after the game. Also, it's U.S. Bank Family Fun Day and Huerter Orthodontics Lil' Chasers Club Day. Fans will be able to enjoy clowns, face painters and balloon artists presented by Fat Brain Toys. Following the game, all kids get to run the bases with Stormy presented by Hardees. Plus, it is Sam's Club canned food day. Everyone who brings a canned good item gets a free McDonald's grass berm ticket. Sunday's promotions are proudly presented by Borsheims, U.S. Bank, Sam's Club, Hardees, KGBI and Omaha Magazine.
