Patriots Edge Riversharks 3-2

June 2, 2012 - Atlantic League (AtL) Somerset Patriots

Camden, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (16-20) defeated the Camden Riversharks (17-19) 3-2 Saturday afternoon from sunny Campbell's Field. The Patriots scored all their runs in the fifth inning to register their eighth come from behind victory this season and snapped their seven game losing streak. The Riversharks ended their four game winning streak.

In the bottom of the fourth inning catcher Scott Knazek hit an RBI triple to put the Riversharks on the scoreboard first as they led 1-0.

In the ensuing half inning the Patriots took a 3-1 lead. Left fielder Rex Rundgren recorded an RBI single to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Third baseman Jeff Nettles laced a two RBI double down the left field line to give the Patriots a lead they would not relinquish.

In the bottom of the eighth inning third baseman Eduardo Perez hit an RBI double to cut the two run deficit in half making the score 3-2.

Southpaw Doug Arguello earned his second win of the season. Arguello tossed five innings and allowed just one run. He left the game after five innings after a line drive off the bat of first baseman Brian Burgamy hit him on the right wrist. Right hander Mike McGuire suffered his fourth loss of 2012. Patriots closer Josh Rupe earned his sixth save the season as recorded a five out save.
