River Cats Beat Grizzlies 10-7, Take Series 3-1
June 2, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) Sacramento River Cats
West Sacramento, Calif. - A three-run home run from Brandon Moss in the fourth inning was the difference as the River Cats bested the Fresno Grizzlies, 10-7 on Friday night at Raley Field. The three hour and a 38-minute game began with the Grizzlies scoring three runs in the first and one in the second. The Cats quickly responded with three runs in the second and six in the fourth, giving them a lead that they would not relinquish.
River Cats starter Bruce Billings left in the first inning after slipping while pitching out of the stretch. The two runners he left on base when he departed came around to score, inflating his ERA to 3.00 on the year. Lefty Fabio Castro allowed three runs-two earned-in four innings of relief. Rich Thompson gave up two runs in two innings of work while lefty Pedro Figueroa threw two shutout innings. Evan Scribner pitched one shutout inning for his sixth save of the season.
Moss led Sacramento's offensive attack, finishing 2-for-5 with three RBIs and his team-leading 12th home run. Grant Green went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs and his sixth home run of the year. The 10 runs and 10 hits recorded by the Cats were greater than their two previous games, combined.
The River Cats went 5-3 over their eight-game homestand during which the average paid attendance was 9,875. The win puts Sacramento 1.5 games back of Fresno for first place in the Pacific Coast league.
The Cats now embark on an 11-game, 12-day road trip, beginning with a four-game set in Tacoma that starts with Brad Peacock (6-2, 4.91 ERA) taking on Erasmo Ramirez (2-1, 3.80 ERA) on Saturday night. Sacramento returns home on June 14 when they open a four-game series against the Rainiers at 7:05 at Raley Field for a Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday that will feature a Salute to the Red, White & Blue presented by the U.S. Army.
