Ninth Inning Runs Boost BayBears to 4-2 Win

The Mobile BayBears rallied with two runs in the ninth inning to top the Jacksonville Suns 4-2 Friday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. With the score tied in the top of the ninth, the BayBears pushed through to take a 4-2 lead. Left-handed starter Tyler Skaggs held the Suns in check, allowing just two runs over eight full innings. With Friday's win, Mobile took the five game series, 3-2, and are three games ahead of the Montgomery Biscuits for first place in the Southern League South Division Standings.

Skaggs earned his third straight win, improving 4-3 on the season. The lefty surrendered just two runs on six hits and struck out four. David Nick and Matt Davidson lead off the ninth inning with back-to-back singles. Marc Krauss drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. In the next at-bat, Alfredo Marte drove in Nick with a sacrifice fly to give the BayBears a 3-2 lead. Rossmel Perez added a run with a sacrifice fly that plated Davidson, giving Mobile a 4-2 advantage. Right-handed reliever Matt Gorgen recorded his sixth save after working a scoreless ninth.

Krauss got the Mobile offense going in the top of second inning with a lead-off double. Mobile took a 1-0 lead when Krauss scored on a sacrifice fly from Clevlen. After the Suns scored a run in the third inning, Krauss put the BayBears back in front with a solo homer to give Mobile a 2-1 lead. The BayBears held the one run lead until the eighth inning when Jacksonville tied the game at two.
