Buschmann Dazzles in Biscuits Win

May 29, 2012 - Southern League (SL) Montgomery Biscuits

PEARL, Miss.- The Biscuits (27-25) scored four unearned runs all in the fourth inning behind a dominating performance from starter Matt Buschmann (2-2) to down the Mississippi Braves (23-28) 4-1 and even the series at a game a piece Tuesday night at Trustmark Park.

Buschmann gave up one run on five hits through seven innings while striking out six for the win in his longest outing of the season. Out of 21 outs, the former Vanderbilt Commodore retired eleven with groundballs and six via the strikeout.

All the of the Biscuits damage came when they entered the fourth inning trailing by one. With Ty Morrison on first and one out, back-to-back errors by the M-Braves allowed the Biscuits to tie the game. Tyler Bortnick added an RBI-single to give Montgomery a 2-1 advantage. Greg Sexton and Brad Coon would each drive in single runs to give the Biscuits a 4-1 lead.

All four runs in the fourth were charged to Mississippi starter Gary Moran (1-3), but none of the runs were earned. Moran tossed seven innings while giving up six hits in the loss.

Bortnick and Sexton both finished the game 2-4 with an RBI. Frank De Los Santos tossed the final two scoreless innings of the ball game by retiring all six batters he faced.

The Biscuits and M-Braves will be in action again Wednesday night at 7:05. RHP Jake Thompson will start for Montgomery while Mississippi will start LHP Luis Avilan.
