Rodriguez, Rainiers Trump Tucson, 6-4
May 26, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) Tacoma Rainiers
TACOMA, Wash. - Luis Rodriguez collected three hits to extend his hitting streak to 21 games as the Tacoma Rainiers bested the Tucson Padres 6-4 at Cheney Stadium on SaturdayThe Rainiers win moves manager Daren Brown into a tie for first place with Dan Rohn on Tacoma's all-time managerial wins list. Brown has now guided Tacoma to 375 wins since taking over as skipper in 2007, equaling the mark set by Rohn over his five-year stint as the Rainiers manager from 2001-05.
The infielder Rodriguez prolonged his hitting streak - currently the second-longest in the Pacific Coast League - with a single in the first inning. Two batters later, he scored to give the Rainiers a 1-0 lead on Luis Jimenez's RBI-single to center field.
Tucson tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second, but Carlos Peguero put Tacoma on top again with a two-run single in the bottom of the third.
The Rainiers stretched a 3-2 edge to an insurmountable four runs with a three-run inning in the fourth. Outfielder Trayvon Robinson hit a two-run single, and then Carlos Peguero plated Robinson after grounding into a force out two batters later.
Tacoma combined to record 11 hits on Saturday, with Rodriguez's 3-for-4 effort leading the lineup. Robinson and Jimenez each turned in two hits. Jimenez has now reached base safely in 24 consecutive games, currently the second-longest streak in the PCL.
Starter Jeff Marquez (4-4) collected his fourth win of the season after holding the Padres to four runs on nine hits and striking out a season-high six batters over 5.0 innings. Relievers Josh Kinney and Stephen Pryor each tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, combining to allow just three hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
