TACOMA, Wash. - Carlos Peguero and Casper Wells both homered as the Tacoma Rainiers tallied 14 hits and topped the Tucson Padres 13-6 on Friday night. With the Rainiers holding a 5-2 advantage, the outfielder Peguero stretched the lead to seven runs with a one-out, two-run home run in the second inning - his fifth over his last five games and ninth overall this season. Wells, in his first game with Tacoma since being optioned from Seattle on Thursday, belted a two-run home run three batters later that put Tacoma up 9-2.
Tacoma's lead ballooned to as much as 11 runs after the Rainiers tacked on four more runs in the fifth. Vinnie Catricala hit an RBI-double to extend his hitting streak to a season-high six games, and Mike Wilson collected his second and third RBI of the night with a two-run single.
Infielder Luis Rodriguez was one of four Rainiers to a turn in multi-hit efforts after going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Rodriguez has now hit safely in a team-best 20 consecutive games, currently the second-longest hitting streak in the Pacific Coast League.
Wells, Wilson and Carlos Triunfel turned in the other multi-hit games for Tacoma, with Wells going 3-for-4 with a home run and a double.
Reliever Scott Patterson earned the win after tossing 2.0 scoreless innings over the seventh and eighth. Starter Anthony Vasquez surrendered six runs on 10 hits over 4.0 innings, while walking two and fanning three.
