Isotopes Routed by RedHawks 10-4

May 26, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) Albuquerque Isotopes

The Albuquerque Isotopes (27-22) were victims of a five-run fifth, falling to the Oklahoma City RedHawks (28-20) 10-4 on Friday night at Isotopes Park. The 'Topes have now lost three consecutive games at home for the first time this season, and drop a game and a half behind OKC in the PCL American Southern Division.

The RedHawks jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the second off a solo shot to left from Brad Snyder. Jeff Baisley quickly matched the homer, blasting a dinger of his own to right-center to tie the game 1-1.

Oklahoma City responded in the third as Brian Bixler drew a leadoff walk and Jimmy Paredes singled to right. Fernando Martinez then put the RedHawks back on top, poking an RBI single to right that plated Bixler and gave the 'Hawks a 2-1 edge. Paredes added one more for OKC, scampering home on a roller to pitcher Stephen Fife (3-4) to add to the 'Hawks lead 3-1.

Battling back, Trent Oeltjen crushed a home run to left in the third, cutting the Oklahoma City lead 3-2. Unfortunately for Albuquerque, the one-run game was the smallest deficit for the remainder of the contest.

OKC put the game out of reach with a five-run fifth that began with a bunt single from Paredes, who scored on an RBI double from Martinez. Brett Wallace was then plunked by a pitch from Fife and Angel Sanchez roped an RBI single, plating Martinez and putting runners on the corners with two outs. Reliever Scott Rice then came on for Fife, immediately yielding a three-run homer from Landon Powell that capped off the inning and gave the 'Hawks an 8-2 lead.

Albuquerque refused to quit, largely due to Luis Cruz who belted an RBI single in the fifth and a solo homer in the eighth, bringing the Isotopes to within 8-4.

The RedHawks tacked on two more in the ninth as Snyder lifted a two-run shot that finished off the 10-4 RedHawks win.

The 'Topes continue their third and final series of the homestand tomorrow against first place Oklahoma City. Isotopes right-hander John Ely (3-3, 3.64) will battle the division rival's southpaw Wes Musick (0-0, 3.00) in a 7:05 start at Isotopes Park.

The Isotopes 12-game homestand rolls on with an unforgettable Memorial Day Weekend as Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Matt Kemp and outfielder Juan Rivera are both scheduled to appear this Sunday, May 27 and Monday, May 28 as part of Major League Rehabilitation Assignments. The series also includes back-to-back fireworks shows and a camo jersey auction. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.abqisotopes.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
