Aeros Score Early and Often in 16-3 Win

May 18, 2012 - Eastern League (EL) Akron Aeros

Akron, OH - The Akron Aeros registered season-highs in runs and hits in a prolific offensive display Friday night, as they cruised to a 16-3 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels at Canal Park.

First baseman Chun Chen and third baseman Kyle Bellows each had four hits on the night for the Aeros, who collected 16 total hits. Chen had a season-high five RBI's with a pair of doubles and two singles. Bellows blasted a grand slam as part of his four-hit night.

While the bats came to life, Aeros starter T.J. House held the Squirrels to two hits and a single run over six innings. Making his fourth start of the season, House (2-1) worked around four walks and struck out five.

Chen smacked an RBI single in the first inning off Richmond starter Mike Kickham (2-4). He added a two-run double in the third to make it 3-0. In the fourth, nine Akron batters came to the plate, including Chen with another RBI double, to score five more and make it 8-0.

Bellows had his first four-hit night of the season, and capped the scoring with a grand-slam off infielder Jose Flores during a seven-run eighth inning for the Aeros.

The Aeros (24-14) will play game two of the series against Richmond (20-21) on Saturday night at 6:05. LHP Giovanni Soto (3-2, 4.46) is scheduled to pitch for Akron, while RHP Justin Fitzgerald (3-1, 3.18) will start for Richmond.
