MANCHESTER, NH - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats tagged Darin Gorski for a career-high ten hits and defeated the Binghamton Mets 9-0 Saturday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The B-Mets went just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded ten on base in their fourth shutout loss of the year.
The Fisher Cats scratched out the game's first run in the third. Brian Van Kirk singled to start the frame against Gorski and scored two batters later on John Tolisano's double to right centerfield.
New Hampshire kept the offense rolling the fourth. Following a leadoff walk to AJ Jimenez, the home team plated four runs on four hits. Brad Glenn drove in two with a double and Ryan Goins and Koby Clemens each collected an RBI on singles.
The Fisher Cats ended Gorski's day with four straight hits to start the fifth. AJ Jimenez laced an RBI single to center and Mark Sobolewski delivered the final blow with a three-run homer to right. Gorski allowed nine runs (eight earned) on ten hits and struck out five in four innings of work. Kevin Mulvey relieved the lefty and retired all three he faced to end the inning.
After a bumpy first inning in which he allowed a hit to den Dekker on his first pitch of the game, Fisher Cats starter Yohan Pino settled in for a fine performance. The righty struck out seven and allowed three hits over six shutout innings. He retired the final seven he faced and 12 of the last 13 B-Mets.
In his Double-A debut Sam Dyson worked around three B-Mets hits to post a scoreless seventh. Eric Campbell roped a triple off the center field fence against Clint Everts, but the B-Mets failed to score in the eighth. Danny Farquhar allowed two hits, but struck out three to close the game in a shutout ninth.
Pino (3-0) collected his second win against the B-Mets this season, while Gorski (2-2) was handed his second consecutive loss. Brad Holt and Robert Carson closed out the pitching tab for Binghamton with three scoreless innings of relief.
The B-Mets (16-18) complete their four-game set against the Fisher Cats Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM. RHP Greg Peavey takes the mound for Binghamton against RHP Randy Boone for New Hampshire. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 1:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
