Revolution Win Opener of Weekend Series 11-6

York, PA - The York Revolution (4-10) won the first game of the three game weekend series against the Somerset Patriots (9-6) 11-6 in a contest that was back and forth featuring four lead changes and three ties. The Revolution sent 10 men to the plate in the seventh inning scoring six runs which proved to be the difference. The Patriots snapped their four game winning streak while the Revolution ended their three game losing streak.In the top of the first inning Patriots designated hitter Jesse Hoorelbeke hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field to score center fielder Jonny Tucker to make the score 1-0.
In the bottom of the first inning the Revolution responded quickly when right fielder Michael Hernandez homered (5) to right field to tie the game at 1-1.
In the top of the fourth inning Hoorelbeke hit a towering solo home run (4) over the 37 foot high wall out in left field as the Patriots took a 2-1 lead.
The Revolution batted around in the bottom of the fourth inning plating four runs to take a 5-2 lead. Third baseman Ramon Castro and second baseman Liu Rodriguez had RBI groundouts while shortstop Danny Gonzalez and catcher Salvador Paniagua to make the score 5-2.
In the top of the sixth inning the Patriots showed resiliency and battled back. Tucker scored on left fielder Freddy Sandoval's RBI groundout to make the score 5-3. The ensuing batter Hoorelbeke hooked a single down the right field line to plate second baseman Freddie Bynum and cut the deficit to one and make the score 5-4.
In the top of the seventh inning third baseman Jeff Nettles hit a towering solo home run (1) over the tall left field wall to tie the game at 5-5.
In the bottom of the eighth inning designated hitter Andres Perez drew a bases loaded walk to break the tie and give the Revolution a 6-5 advantage. The next batter, left fielder James Shanks, spanked a two-run single into right field to give the Revolution an 8-5 edge. The Revolution would add three more insurance runs as Castro belted a three-run home run (1) to left center to make the score 11-5.
In the top of the eighth inning, Nettles recorded his second RBI of the night as he hit a soft single to left field to plate Bynum making the score 11-6.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Tuesday, May 15th when the Patriots return home to take on the Bridgeport Bluefish at TD Bank Ballpark.
