Curve Errors Aid 'Wolves Win

The Erie SeaWolves took advantage of key Altoona Curve errors on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park as the team opened a seven-game homestand with an 8-4 win

The SeaWolves capitalized on early Altoona gaffes in the opening inning against Curve starter Nathan Baker. Brandon Douglas reached on a one out-error. With two outs, Jordan Lennerton singled through the right side and on an errant Quincy Latimore throw, Douglas scored from first for a 1-0 Erie lead. Rawley Bishop singled Lennerton into scoring position and he would score on a Ben Guez base knock for a 2-0 lead.

Altoona answered in the top of the second against Erie starter Zack Segovia. Ramon Cabrera led off with a single and he scored on a two-out Quincy Latimore double making it 2-1.

Erie went back ahead by two in the bottom of the second at 3-1. Michael Rockett tripled and scored on a Jamie Johnson groundout.

The Curve came right back in the third inning. Brock Holt walked with one out and advanced to second on a Tony Sanchez hit. Cabrera singled home Holt making it 3-2.

Erie answered the call in the fourth inning. Guez led off, walked and moved to second on a balk. Guez scored from second on a Rockett single making it 4-2.

In the top of the fifth, Altoona tied the game on a two-run Cabrera home run.

Erie responded in the last of the fifth on a Niuman Romero leadoff, solo home run to right making it 5-4. The 'Wolves would hold the lead the remainder of the game. The home run was the first allowed by Baker and the first long ball hit from the right side by Romero.

In the sixth, the SeaWolves continued to add to their lead. Erie loaded the bases on a Bishop singe, Guez walk and Bryan Pounds knock. With one out, Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Bishop for a 6-4 lead. With two outs, Romero lifted a fly ball to left that was dropped by Charlie Cutler. The error allowed two more runs to score for an 8-4 'Wolves lead.

Reliever Ryan Robowski continued his stellar pitching as he held the score scoreless over the final four innings of the game, earning his second save in as many chances. Robowski struck out a season-high five while equaling his season-high with four innings.

Segovia (4-2) earned the win, allowing four runs on eight hits with three walks and a strikeout. Segovia has now won four consecutive starts.

The SeaWolves and Curve meet in the second game of the series on Friday night.7:05 First Pitch. LHP Jared Wesson (3-2, 6.91 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Phillip Irwin.

Friday features Happy Hour in the Bud Light Beer Garden until 7:05 featuring $2 Budweiser, Bud Light and Pepsi fountain drinks. Following the game, it's the first Fireworks show of the season presented by Erie County Recycling.
