Dragons On The Field
Though some of the names have changed, the Dragons bullpen continues to shine. Three Dragons relief pitchers have earned run averages under 2.00 (Brooks Pinckard at 0.00, Ryan Kemp at 0.98, and Kyle McMyne at 1.72), and the entire bullpen ERA is 2.90. McMyne was named the Dragons Pitcher of the Month for April. Carlos Contreras is near the top of the league in opponent's batting average, holding hitters to a .130 mark.
Because of the recent promotion of Dragons opening day starter Justice French, Centerville native Dan Jensen was moved into the starting rotation. He began the season as a reliever and compiling a 1.69 earned run average in ten appearances out of the bullpen. In his first start, Jensen threw four innings and gave up one unearned run on two hits. He didn't factor into the decision in his longest outing of the year. The start was Jensen's fourth in his professional career, though he was a starter at the University of Cincinnati during his junior and senior season. He is scheduled to start the first game of the homestand on May 12th.
Former major leaguer Delino DeShields is in his second season as manager for Dayton in 2012. He enters his fourth season in the Reds organization, having served as the manager of the Billings Mustangs in 2010 and as the hitting coach in Billings in 2009. Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer Tom Browning joins the staff as the pitching coach, and Alex Pelaez begins his second year as the team's hitting coach.
