Thompson, Williams Combine to No-Hit LumberKings

May 4, 2012 - Midwest League (MWL) Clinton LumberKings

Clinton, IA - The anemic offense of the Clinton LumberKings reached its lowest level on Friday night as they were no-hit by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The combination of starter Chad Thompson and reliever Mark Williams blanked Clinton, 5-0.

Thompson, who was just added to Wisconsin's roster on May 2 from extended spring training, pitched the first five innings for the Timber Rattlers. He walked three and struck out six. Williams worked the final four innings for Wisconsin and allowed a walk and hit a batter while striking out three.

Wisconsin scored four times in the first inning and that proved to be all they would need. Jason Rogers got the scoring started with a run-scoring single to bring home Brandon Macias. The next batter, Greg Hopkins blasted a pitch off the scoreboard in left-center to make it a 4-0 game.

The 'T-Rats extended the lead to 5-0 in the fourth on a RBI single by Rafael Neda. LumberKings starter Stephen Landazuri was charged with his first loss of the season as he allowed five runs on six hits. Josh Corrales was great in relief as he threw three shutout innings for Clinton.

The last time the LumberKings were no-hit was on July 4, 2011 when Austin Kirk of Peoria stifled Clinton. The no-hitter by Thompson and Williams marked the 15th time a Clinton team has been no-hit in its professional baseball history.

The last no-hitter for the Timber Rattlers was on August 24, 2010 against Cedar Rapids when Jake Odorizzi and Adrian Rosario combined to blank the Kernels.

The LumberKings open a four-game series against the Burlington Bees on Saturday night. Left-hander Jordan Shipers (1-0, 2.10) toes the rubber for Clinton and Burlington sends right-hander Jose Macias (1-3, 6.65) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
