Captains Sweep Dragons 5-0

(Dayton, OH) - Joe Colon (2-3) got the win for Lake County on Friday night. Colon pitched seven shutout innings allowing just three base hits and struck out five. Francisco Valera finished off the ballgame by pitching two scoreless innings himself and the Captains swept the Dragons 5-0. This is the first time this season Lake County has won three straight ballgames.Lake County opened the scoring in the first inning. Francisco Lindor homered to the lawn in right field with Luigi Rodriguez standing on first base. The homer was the third of the season for Lindor and the third he has hit from the left side of the plate. It was a 2-0 early Captains lead.
The Captains put another run on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Alex Monsalve hit an RBI single to center field with two outs. That made the score 3-0 Captains at the end of six innings. In the seventh Lake County added on. Leonardo Castillo hit his second homer of the series it was a solo shot to left field and it extended the Captains lead to 4-0.
Lake County tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning when Rodriguez walked and stole second base and then moved to third with less than two outs. Bryson Myles struck out hbut the third strike was dropped and skipped far enough away for Myles to reach first base and Rodriguez to score. It was 5-0 Captains headed to the ninth.
The Dragons starting pitcher RHP Daniel Tuttle (1-1) took the loss. Tuttle went 6.0IP, 5 H, 3 ER 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HRA. Carlos Contreras pitched two innings and allowed one hit and one earned run. He allowed Leonardo Castillo's 2nd homerun of the season. Dan Jensen entered in the ninth and pitched a scoreless inning.
The Captains continue the road trip on Saturday night in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Captains and the Hot Rods will be playing for the second time this season but the first time in Kentucky. BG swept the Captains in four games in Eastlake. Lake County will send RHP Cody Anderson (2-0, 2.70) to the mound and the Hot Rods will counter with LHP Ryan Carpenter (3-1, 3.10). Game time is scheduled for 8:05 PM.
