Generals Tie Series With 10 Inning Win

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (APRIL 22, 2012) - Jesus Sucre knocked in two runs in the top of the 10th inning Monday, helping Jackson to a 6-4 win over the Huntsville Stars (10-9) at Joe Davis Stadium. The Generals (12-7) tied the series at two games each and force the rubber match on Tuesday morning. The Generals remain atop the Southern League North standings, by two games over Huntsville and Tennessee.

Sucre delievered the bases loaded single scoring Eric Campbell and Johermyn Chavez in the top of the 10th inning. Gabriel Noriega followed with a single that scored Chris Pettit to give Jackson a 6-3 edge. The Stars tallied a solo home run from Lee Hydel in the bottom of the 10th inning to make the final score, 6-4.

Carter Capps (1-1) picked up the win for Jackson allowing a run on one hit, striking out three. Eric Marzec (1-1) suffered the loss for Huntsville.

Jackson trailed 3-1 after the first two innings. The Generals added single runs in the sixth and seventh to tie the game, forcing extras. Starter Brandon Maurer surrendered three runs on four hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked two in the no decision.

Nick Franklin collected three hits for the second straight day and was 3-for-5 on Monday. Francisco Martinez drove in a pair of runs and was 3-for-4 with a triple. Rich Poythress and Johermyn Chavez notched two hit performances in the 6-4 victory. Poythress has a seven-game hitting streak and Franklin has a six-game hitting streak.

The Generals face Huntsville on Tuesday morning at Joe Davis Stadium in the rubber match of the five-game series, with first pitch set for 10:43 a.m. LH Danny Hultzen (1-2, 2.81) makes the start for the Generals.
