Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

HICKORY, N.C. (April 17, 2012) -- The Hickory Crawdads used a four-run fifth inning to beat the Intimidators, 7-5, on Tuesday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. Kannapolis took its first lead of the game in the top of the fifth before Hickory jumped back in front in the bottom of the inning.

The Intimidators pulled in front with three runs in the top of the fifth. David Herbek led off with a double down the right field line and advanced to third base on a Kyle Eveland groundout. Grant Bucker singled home Herbek and moved to third on a Kevin Smith double. Leighton Pangilinan singled to score Bucker, tying the game 3-3 and chasing Crawdads starter Victor Payano from the game. Rangel Ravelo followed with a sacrifice fly off reliever Nick McBride to give the Intimidators a 4-3 lead.

Hickory returned fire with five straight hits to begin the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring four runs. After Chris Grayson's game-tying single to right field, Rougned Odor tripled down the right field line pulling Hickory ahead, 6-4, to chase Daniel Webb from the game. Hanser Alberto singled off reliever Jefferson Olacio to cash Odor for a 7-4 lead.

Kannapolis reliever Jefferson Olacio tossed four scoreless innings, matching a career-high with six strikeouts in his longest outing of the season. Olacio kept it close as the Intimidators attempted to come back, but double plays by the Crawdads in the seventh and eighth innings quenched would-be rallies. Kannapolis drew walks to put the tying runs on base in the ninth inning with two outs, but Ravelo grounded out to end the game.

Webb (0-2) took the loss for the Intimiators, allowing seven runs (five earned) on seven hits. Payano allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits in 4 and 1/3 innings with a walk and four strikeouts. Nick McBride (2-0) tossed 2 and 2/3 innings of relief, allowing a run on four hits with two strikeouts to earn a win for the Crawdads.

Hickory pulled in front in the bottom of the first inning as Chris Grayson reached on a Kyle Eveland error and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Zach Cone followed with his second home run in as many days and third against the Intimidators this season for a 2-0 Crawdads lead.

Kannapolis responded in the top of the second as Ravelo reached base on an error, stole second and scored on Keenyn Walker's 2-out double, his team-leading ninth RBI of the season.

Hickory's Jordan Akins blasted a two-out home run (2) in the bottom of the second to extended the Crawdads lead, 3-1.

Kannapolis and Hickory conclude this three-game series on Wednesday at L.P. Frans Stadium at 6:00 p.m. as Intimidators starter LHP Scott Snodgress (0-0, 8.64) faces Hickory's RHP Jerad Eickhoff (1-1, 4.66). The game will be broadcast online at www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.

The Intimidators return home for a four-game series against the Lexington Legends on Thursday, April 19. The team will have post-game fireworks on Saturday, April 21. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
