Midland, TX - Losers of two straight games for the first time in 2012, the Cardinals faced a familiar foe on the Monday Sunday afternoon in former Springfield Cardinals' draft choice Gary Daley Jr. of the Midland RockHounds. Lyons fired a scoreless first inning, but ran into trouble in the second. After allowed a lead-off single and a walk, Lyons struck out a batter before surrendering an RBI single to Jeremy Barfield to tie the game. Another walk loaded the bases for Dusty Coleman who delivered a sacrifice fly to give Midland a 2-1 lead. Conner Crumbliss followed with an RBI single to score another run and increase the lead to two runs. Lyons would leave the game after the single giving way to Scott Schneider who struck out the final batter of the inning.
Schneider retired the first two batters with faced in the 3rd, but issued a walk to Michael Spina. The next four hitters delivered RBI hits to score four in the frame to give Midland a 7-1 lead.
The Cardinals righty began the 4th, but would not finish it after allowing three straight hits, including an RBI single by Shane Peterson to increase the lead to 8-1. Kevin Thomas entered out of the Springfield bullpen and did not fare much better as he allowed an RBI single to Anthony Aliotti and a three run homer to Jeremy Barfield making it 12-1. Two more singles and a two-run double by Josh Horton, his second of the inning put the RockHounds in front 14-1. In all, seven runs scored on eight hits in the bottom of the fourth.
