Chicago Wolves Adopt-A-Dog Program Approaches Milestone
April 11, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL) Chicago Wolves
When the Chicago Wolves arranged their first Adopt-A-Dog Night in 2001, Wolves Chairman
of the Board Don Levin figured the team would try the promotion once or twice. Then it turned
out the team's fans relished the chance to provide homes for the dogs brought in from Animal
Care and Control in Chicago. Now the Wolves and their fans are on the verge of achieving a milestone. If 19 dogs are adopted during the team's final Adopt-A-Dog Night on the 2011-12 schedule -- a 7 p.m. game Saturday against the Milwaukee Admirals at Allstate Arena -- then 1,000 dogs will have found happy homes via the Adopt-A-Dog program.
"To me, one dog is a huge accomplishment," Levin said. "One thousand dogs? I don't even know what to say. It's so gratifying. Whenever I see someone adopt a dog at a game, I go over and shake their hand. The lives it has changed; the families that have become bigger and better for adopting a dog; it's really an amazing thing."
It costs just $65 to take care of the registration, the vaccinations, and the spaying/neutering for each dog. For information on attending Saturday's game, visit ChicagoWolves.com or call 1-800-THE-WOLVES.
