Bears Release Forward Billy Ryan

HERSHEY, Pa. - The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that the club has released forward Billy Ryan from his professional tryout agreement. The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

Ryan, 26, posted one goal and six penalty minutes in four games with HERSHEY. The goal was the first of his AHL career, recorded on April 1 against the Binghamton Senators. Ryan also saw AHL action with the Lake Erie Monsters this season, registering one assist in three games.

The native of Milton, MA rejoins the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL), who recently advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Ryan registered 12 points (nine goals, three assists) in 12 games with South Carolina.

Ryan dressed in 63 games last season with the Nottingham Panthers (EIHL), posting 77 points (30 goals, 47 assists). He also played in 34 games with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons, recording 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists).

Prior to turning pro, the 6-1, 175-lb. forward put up 92 points (35 goals, 57 assists) in 135 games in a four-year career at the University of Maine (HE).

Ryan was originally selected in the third round (80th overall) by the New York Rangers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The BEARS begin their final road trip of the 2011-12 regular season on Friday, April 13 with a 7:00 PM faceoff against the Portland Pirates.
