Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (April 8, 2012) -- Down two with two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the ninth, the Kannapolis Intimidators rallied for their first win of the season, a 12-11 victory over the Hickory Crawdads at CMC-NorthEast Stadium in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. First baseman Leighton Pangilinan singled to right field to drive in the winning run and bring the Intimidators back from what had been a 5-run deficit.
Dusty Harvard started the two-out rally in the ninth, singling to left field before Keenyn Walker's double off the wall in left-center brought him home, pulling Kannapolis within a run, 11-10. Joe De Pinto singled to move Walker to third, and Walker scored to tie the game on a wild pitch one batter later. After Michael Johnson walked, Pangilinan came to the plate with the winning run in scoring position. His third hit of the night completed the comeback and gave Kannapolis its first win of the season.
Intimidators reliever Jarrett Casey (1-0) earned the win, giving up one run on one hit with two walks and a strikeout in two innings. Arlett Mavare (0-1) took the loss for Hickory, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits in two innings of work.
Hickory built its lead in large part thanks to three Intimidators errors in the top of the fourth inning which led to five runs for the Crawdads. Hickory chased Kannapolis starter Scott Snodgress from the game in the fourth inning. He finished the night allowing eight runs (five earned) on seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
In the first inning, Hickory starter Santo Perez plunked consecutive batters, and Pangilinan followed with a bases-clearing triple. Rangel Ravelo grounded out to cash Pangilinan and give Kannapolis a 3-0 lead after the first inning. De Pinto drove in two more Intimidators runs in the bottom of the second when Crawdads right fielder Jeremy Williams tripped on the play, resulting in a two-run double and a 5-2 Intimidators lead. Hickory would go on to score eight straight runs before the Intimidators would cross the plate again.
Rangel Ravelo (1) blasted the first home run of the season for an Intimidators player, a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh to pull Kannapolis within two, 10-8. The long ball not only helped the Intimidators get back into the ball game, but one lucky fan won a year's supply of toilet paper as a result of Ravelo's "Seven Oaks Seventh Inning Slam" home run.
Matthew Lane helped keep the game close in the late inning, throwing scoreless sixth and seventh innings while striking out three batters.
The Intimidators begin a three-game series with the Delmarva Shorebirds at CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Monday. Monday's at CMC- NorthEast Stadium are Belly Buster Mondays presented by Pagerosa BBQ Sauce, and fans can enjoy all-you-can-eat at most concessions stands for only $10 (excludes drinks, candy and pizza).
