U17's TILTS: The U.S. National Under-17 Team continues its travels on the road again this weekend against the Youngstown Phantoms. Team USA visits the Covelli Center on Friday (March 2) and Saturday (March 3) for 7:30 p.m. EST tilts. Youngstown sits two places above the U.S. in the United States Hockey League standings, with 15 more points. However, Team USA has five games in hand. The Under-17 Team is 4-1-0 (W-L-OTL) against the Phantoms this season, but dropped its last meeting, 5-4, on Feb. 19 at the Ann Arbor (Mich.) Ice Cube.U18's FACE GREEN BAY IN THURSDAY BOUT: The U.S. National Under-18 Team returns to USHL action in a Thursday (March 1) bout against the Green Bay Gamblers. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. EST at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Team USA holds a 1-1-1 (W-L-OTL) record against the Gamblers, who own the best record in the USHL. Green Bay last visited the Under-18 Team on Nov. 18 and defeated the U.S., 4-2.
U17's DROP TWO WEEKEND BOUTS: Anthony Louis (Winfield, Ill.) netted one goal, but the Under-17 Team was downed by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 8-1, at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena on Feb. 24. Hudson Fasching (Burnsville, Minn.) and Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Mich.) collected assists on the power-play goal. The following night (Feb. 25), Evan Allen (Sterling Heights, Mich.) connected with Miles Koules (Los Angeles, Calif.) for one goal, but the U17's were edged by the Green Bay Gamblers, 2-1, at the Resch Center.
U18's SWEEP WEEKEND VERSUS CHARGERS: Riley Barber (Livonia, Mich.) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the second period, as the Under-18 Team clipped the University of Alabama-Huntsville, 3-2, at the Von Braun Center on Feb. 24. Jared Rutledge (Chicago, Ill.) made 15 saves for Team USA in the victory. In the rematch the following night (Feb. 25), Nicolas Kerdiles (Irvine, Calif.) scored one goal and added two assists, as the Under-18 Team bested the Chargers, 6-3. Ryan Hartman (West Dundee, Ill.) chipped in with a multi-point effort, netting one goal and collecting an assist.
UNDER-17 TEAM NEWS/NOTES: Forward Anthony Louis has four points (3-1) in his last three games dating back to Feb. 20 ... Tyler Motte had a six game point streak snapped on Feb. 25, matching his longest streak of the year. The forward had three goals and four assists during that span ... Forward Hudson Fasching has six points (2-4) in his last four games dating back to Feb. 19.
UNDER-18 TEAM NEWS/NOTES: Team USA concluded its competition against NCAA Division I and III opponents with a 7-8-2 (W-L-T) record ... Heading back into USHL action, defenseman Jacob Trouba (Rochester, Mich.) leads the Under-18 Team in points with 11 (3-8) in 13 games ... Frankie Vatrano (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Thomas Di Pauli (Woodridge, Ill.) are second with 10 points. Both forwards have five goals and five assists each in 15 games ... Jared Rutledge leads all NTDP goalies in goals-against-average (2.28) and save percentage (.907) ... Both Rutledge and Collin Olson (Apple Valley, Minn.) have one shutout each in USHL play.
NTDP TO HOST STAR WARS NIGHT: When the U.S. National Under-18 Team takes on the Youngstown Phantoms on March 10 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube, Star Wars characters will be on hand to meet with fans. Commemorative patches and lightsabers will also be sold to help benefit Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor.
NTDP ALUMNI UPDATE: Tampa Bay Lightning forward Adam Hall (Kalamazoo, Mich./1997-98) scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 28 ... Florida Panthers forward Jack Skille (Madison, Wis./2003-05) registered an assist in a Feb. 28 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs ... Carolina defenseman Jamie McBain (Faribault, Minn./2004-06) notched one goal as the Hurricanes clipped the Nashville Predators, 4-3, on Feb. 28 ... Los Angeles Kings blueliner Matt Greene (Grand Ledge, Mich./2000-01) collected one assist in a 4-0 shutout against the Minnesota Wild on Feb. 28 ... St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y./2005-07) registered one assist in a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Feb. 27 ... Edmonton Oilers blueliner Ryan Whitney (Scituate, Mass./2000-01) tallied one goal in a Feb. 27 win over the Winnipeg Jets ... Nashville Predators forward Colin Wilson (Greenwich, Conn./2005-07) had two points (1-1) in a 6-2 victory against the San Jose Sharks on Feb. 25 ... Colorado defenseman Matt Hunwick (Roseville, Mich.) netted one goal as the Avalanche blanked the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-0, on Feb. 24 ... Dallas Stars forward Eric Nystrom (Syosett, N.Y./1999-2001) notched one goal in a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wild on Feb. 24.
