Silver Knights Plow Wings in OvertimeFebruary 25, 2012 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Syracuse Silver Knights
Jeff Hughes helped guide the Knights to victory with a goal and an assist, his first since the home game against the SharX earlier this month. Danny Stevens and Nelson Santana also had a goal and an assist each, with Santana providing the tying goal to send it to overtime.
The game started slowly, but the Wings found the back of the net just over four minutes in with a goal by Kevin Ten Eyck. The game became defensive, and no goals were scored until four minutes into the second quarter when Danny Stevens put the Silver Knights on the board. Nelson Santana connected with Jeff Hughes two minutes later on the restart to give the Silver Knights the lead.
Wichita found the net twice in the third quarter to retake the lead, but Hughes and Santana combined again to tie the game in the fourth, taking the game to overtime. The Silver Knights kicked off in overtime, and momentum was in their favor. After just over a minute, Danny Stevens found Andriy Budnyy on the restart. Budnyy hit a laser shot into the side netting to secure the victory.
The Silver Knights close out the 2011-12 campaign on Sunday, March 4 with a game against Eastern Division champions Baltimore Blast. The Silver Knights will be wearing special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund.
