February 17, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Houston Aeros News Release

HOUSTON --- The American Hockey League's Houston Aeros will attempt to set the record for the largest indoor pink glove dance on Pink Sunday, a breast cancer awareness game, when the Aeros host the Grand Rapids Griffins at Toyota Center on Sunday, March 11, at 5:05 p.m.

A portion of every ticket sold through the Aeros front office will benefit Young Survival Coalition (YSC) . Founded in 1998, Young Survival Coalition (YSC) was the first nonprofit organization to focus exclusively on the unique needs of young women affected by breast cancer. Started by young survivors for young survivors, YSC provides comprehensive resources, support and education to address every phase of a woman's breast cancer experience.

"We're truly grateful for the show of support from the Houston Aeros for the more than 250,000 women living in the U.S. today who were diagnosed with breast cancer before their 41st birthday," said Jennifer Merschdorf, chief executive officer of Young Survival Coalition. "The team's generous gift will help YSC ensure that no young woman facing a breast cancer diagnosis feels alone, as well as raise awareness that young women can and do get breast cancer."

Volunteers working with Will's Kids will place pink gloves, donated by Loco Concepts, on every seat of the arena to "paint the arena pink."

Other highlights of the event include "The Pink Line," surrounding the Toyota Center concourse with 40 LOCAL breast cancer and women's health vendors, pink t-shirts designed by Aeros players' wives and girlfriends available for purchase, and a silent auction with over 100 items with all proceeds benefiting YSC. Anyone who purchases a t-shirt will be eligible to participate in our post game on-ice human pink ribbon.

"The Aeros encourage the Houston community to come to the game on March 11, cheer on the Aeros, and take part in a record-setting event to help raise funds and awareness for this great cause," Aeros President David Burke said.

The Aeros are offering breast cancer survivors free tickets to the game; simply call 713.361.7916. Fans may purchase discounted tickets by visiting Aeros.com, clicking the Pink Sunday link on the homepage and using promo code pink1.

Presenting partners include Action Limousine, Bikini Open Promotions, Hollie Hale, K&J Promotions, Loco Bus, Loco Concepts and QSUM.

The Houston Aeros serve as the top development affiliate of the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild and play home games at Toyota Center. Over 70 Aeros have gone on to play in the NHL. Visit Aeros.com for schedule and ticket info.
