Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen are holding an online auction of autographed NHL jerseys to raise money for Peoria's Angel of Hope Project. The jerseys of St. Louis Blues captain, and former Rivermen, David Backes, Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, and Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara are up for auction through the Rivermen web site.
The auction is also available by clicking HERE and will end on Monday, Feb. 20.
The third annual "Tip-A-Riv" Dinner was held by the Rivermen on Feb. 8 and raised $7,079 for the Angel of Hope Project in Peoria. The Rivermen players served as waiters for the event and all proceeds, as well as the tips and money for auction items, generated the largest donation in the three years of the event.
Held at the Lariat Steakhouse, nearly 100 fans, partners, and community members attended and were treated to a prime rib dinner.
"It was so great to see the way our fans came out to support this great cause and raise an extraordinary amount of money," said Rivermen Chief Operating Office Jason Penning. "For our team to have a hand in helping get this statue built is something we are extremely proud of and we can't thank everyone who attended the event enough for their role in this."
Angels of Hope is a non-profit organization that raises money to construct statues around the country to serve as a beacon of hope for those suffering from the emotional and physical absence of a child. Each Angel of Hope statue costs approximately $14,500 and the hope is to raise enough money to have one placed in Peoria.
Over the first three years of the event, the Rivermen have raised $18,557 for the Children's Hospital of Illinois, the Dax Locke Foundation and now the Angel of Hope Project. The inaugural "Tip-A-Riv" Dinner was held on March 2, 2009 and raised $5,478 for the Children's Hospital of Illinois. Last year's event was held on March 16, 2011 and generated $6,000 to benefit "Cherish Every Moment - The Dax Locke Foundation.
