Louisville Lightning News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY (February 10, 2012) -- The Louisville Lightning completed the season sweep of the Ohio Vortex with an 8-5 victory. It was not an easy game as both goalkeepers were brick-walls in their efforts to protect the mesh. But, as is the case for all sports, it is all about the end result on the scoreboard. And the Lightning simply just had more offensive pressure.

Vortex goalie Mike Mason had a heck of a game for the visiting squad, but it just was not enough to keep out the Lightning's skillful ball handlers. It took only a matter of one minute for the Lightning to score in the first quarter when Othaniel Yanez, the former U of L soccer player, just took over the play. OT, as they call him in the locker room, is very light on his feet, and he danced around a defender as if he wasn't even there. He then took a few quick strides and he was in the clear for a rocket of a shot into the top left corner. When asked about scoring the opening goal, OT said, "It feels good to score the first goal, but I was just happy we jumped on the scoreboard early."

But, it wasn't all fun and games tonight. It was important for the Lightning to get the win tonight, because it would mean they still have a chance to take the Eastern Division title. There was one player that wanted it badly, as he has played for the Lightning for all three seasons and have yet to make the playoffs. That man was goalkeeper Frank Peabody. "I just try to feed off the guys in front of me," he said. "They instill a lot of confidence in me, and I instill a lot of confidence in them," he finished.

The Louisville Lightning have one more home game left in the 2011-2012 PASL regular season. But, because of their great play this year, they have secured home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs. The first game will take place on March 2nd, but they have to first play the Detroit Waza at home in two weeks time.
