PORTLAND, Ore. - The P ortland Timbers have taken preseason training to Southern California, where they are in the midst of a 12-day camp at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The team opened camp in Carson on Monday and played the first of four preseason matches while in California earlier this week.

Two days into their California stay, the Timbers defeated the LA Galaxy 4-1 in their first preseason test of 2012, with goals coming from forwards Bright Dike and Jorge Perlaza, midfielder James Marcelin and defender Futty Danso. Both clubs featured two distinct teams for each half, allowing Timbers head coach John Spencer to get 21 players their first game action of 2012. Click here for a full recap and highlights.

The Timbers face MLS newcomer the Montreal Impact in their next preseason match on Friday at The Home Depot Center. The club will also play the Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire before its camp in Carson comes to an end on Thursday, Feb. 16.

Three new players have joined preseason camp since the Timbers arrived in California on Monday, including midfielder Charles Renken, who was acquired by the team last week, and trialists Jose Balcazar and Lance Davids. Supplemental Draft pick Logan McDaniel, who was scheduled to join Portland's preseason camp in Carson, will not report as expected due to injury. Click here for a preseason roster.

Timbers Ambassadors, Timber Joey to help plant trees Saturday with Friends of Trees

Timbers Alumni Ambassadors Scot Thompson and Mick Hoban and mascot Timber Joey will join Friends of Trees and Timbers fans on Saturday to plant trees throughout the Portland-metro area. Fans are invited to join the Alumni Ambassadors and Timber Joey; click here for details and learn how to get involved.

One of the Timbers community pillar partners, Friends of Trees strives to bring people together to plant and care for city trees and green spaces. The Timbers and Friends of Trees teamed up to plant hundreds of trees over the past year, including 135 trees in the Eugene-Springfield and Salem areas as part of the club's Dribble Oregon campaign in January. Along with JELD-WEN Windows & Doors, the Timbers and Friends of Trees have partnered for the "Score a Goal, Plant a Tree" program, seeing that a tree is planted for every goal scored by a Timbers player throughout the season.

Timbers 2012 single-game tickets go on sale Tuesday, Feb. 28

As part of an exclusive on-sale event at JELD-WEN Field, single-game tickets for the club's 2012 MLS season will go on sale to the public Tuesday, Feb. 28, through the stadium box office from 5-10 p.m.

Si ngle-game tickets for each regular-season home match will be available for purchase exclusively at the JELD-WEN Field box office, located on the KeyBank Plaza at the corner of SW 18th Ave and SW Morrison. During the on-sale event, fans can purchase up to four tickets per game and will be allowed to purchase tickets for up to two games per transaction.

Papa Murphy's and Stumptown Coffee Roasters will provide free pizza and coffee samples for fans. JELD-WEN Windows & Doors will distribute JELD-WEN/The Home Depot gift cards to the first and final 100 fans that purchase single-game tickets that night. Additionally, the JELD-WEN Showroom at the stadium will be open and fans are invited to stop by during their visit to JELD-WEN Field.

Starting Wednesday, Feb. 29, at 10 a.m., individual-game tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster and fans will be able to purchase tickets through the stadium box office, local Ticketmaster locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.

Tickets for Timbers' preseason tournament currently available

The Timbers play host to a four-team preseason tournament at JELD-WEN Field from Feb. 27 through March 4. Tickets for the tournament games are currently available through the JELD-WEN Field box office, Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.

The tournament will consist of three doubleheader sessions, featuring the host Timbers, MLS sides the San Jose Earthquakes and Chivas USA and Swedish club AIK in a round-robin format. Tickets for the doubleheader sessions start at $10. Click here for more information about the tournament.

Women's replica Rose City red jerseys now available in team store, online

By popular demand, and just in time for Valentine's Day, the Timbers and adidas collaborated on a women's replica kit of the Timbers Rose City red jersey. The new item is currently available at the adidas Timbers Team Store at JELD-WEN Field or online at shop.portlandtimbers.com.

The adidas Timbers Team Store is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Timbers-Whitecaps FC announce match date change

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Timbers' road match against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Oct. 20, at BC Place in Vancouver, B.C., has been changed to Sunday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m. (Pacific) due to a conflict with the Canadian Football League (CFL) schedule.

The match between the Northwest rivals on Oct. 21 will be televised live on ROOT SPORTS.

The Timbers' weekly radio talk show, "Talk Timbers," presented by JELD-WEN Windows & Doors, airs each week on 750 AM The Game. Hosted by John Strong, Talk Timbers will feature interviews with club officials, coaches, players and special guests. The show will provide team news and the latest information from around MLS as the 2012 season approaches. Tune in tonight for updates from the team's training camp in Carson, Calif.

The next four Talk Timbers shows are: Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m.

NASL Timber Glenn Myernick on National Soccer Hall of Fame ballot

Ballots have been finalized and nominees for the National Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2012 have been announced. Included among the 10 key figures for the 2012 National Soccer Hall of Fame Veteran Ballot is former NASL Timbers defender Glenn Myernick.

The Veteran Ballot is voted on only by current members of the National Soccer Hall of Fame; voting will end Feb. 17 and the inductees from the various categories will be announced then. Click here for ballot criteria and the complete list of nominees for the 2012 class.

Myernick was a member of the Timbers for three seasons from 1980-82, playing in a total of 60 games and recording 11 assists in the original North American Soccer League.

Established in 1950, the National Soccer Hall of Fame is dedicated to the sport of soccer in America by celebrating its history, preserving its legacy, inspiring its youth and honoring its heroes for generations to come.
