New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, N.J. - The New Jersey Jackals announced Tuesday that left-handed pitcher Isaac Pavlik has re-signed with the team for the 2012 season. Pavlik will become the first player in franchise history to suit up for the Jackals for eight seasons when he steps on the field this summer.
A Rutherford native, Pavlik is coming off a 2011 campaign in which he won a career-high 13 games and was named to the Can-Am League's Postseason All-Star Team as the squad's left-handed pitcher after leading the league in strikeouts (112), innings (131.2), and games started (19), finishing second in wins (13), complete games (5), and shutouts (1), and ranking third in ERA (2.73). Highlights of Pavlik's 2012 campaign included Can-Am League Pitcher of the Month accolades in June and a career-high 13-strikeout performance in his final start of the regular season on August 31 vs. the Newark Bears.
Pavlik, who will turn 32 on May 10, has tossed at least 100 innings and posted a sub-three ERA in each of his first seven seasons in Little Falls. The southpaw has served as New Jersey's opening-day starter twice and is a seven-time Can-Am League Pitcher of the Week.
In his career with the Jackals, Pavlik is 55-34 with a 3.40 ERA. He enters 2011 four wins shy of tying Joel Bennett for the most career victories (59) in franchise history.
"It's wonderful to have him back aboard," said manager Joe Calfapietra. "He's a veteran presence and a front-of-the-rotation starter coming off the best season of his career."
The 5-foot-8 Pavlik was a 10th-round selection by the Colorado Rockies in the 2002 draft. Pavlik spent nearly three seasons in the Rockies system as a relief pitcher, earning Northwest League All-Star honors as a rookie in 2002 when he posted a 1.13 ERA in 27 appearances for the Tri-City Dust Devils. In 2004, Pavlik signed with the Bangor Lumberjacks of the independent Northeast League before joining the Jackals in 2005.
During the 2006 season, Pavlik had his contract purchased by the Chicago Cubs. He finished the season at Double-A West Tennessee, appearing in nine games (six starts) and going 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA before returning to the Jackals in 2007.
Pavlik, who currently resides in Ramsey, pitched four seasons at Seton Hall University prior to being drafted by the Rockies. At Seton Hall, Pavlik was primarily a closer and remains the Pirates' career leader in appearances (84) and saves (22).
