2012 Coaching Staff Announced

Tampa Yankees News Release


The New York Yankees Player Development office has officially released the 2012 Tampa Yankees Field Staff. Returning from the 2011 season are Manager Luis Sojo, Pitching Coach Jeff Ware, Hitting Coach Justin Turner, and Coach Mario Garza. Returning as the Tampa Yankees strength and conditioning coach is Jay Signorelli, and serving as the team's athletic trainer for his first season will be Lee Myer.

Manager: Luis Sojo

46, enters his sixth season as manager of the Tampa Yankees. He guided Tampa to a 77-56 overall record in 2009 when the team won the Florida State League Championship. He spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons as a coach for the Yankees at the Major League level. A revered clubhouse presence and versatile infielder, played parts of seven seasons with the Yankees (1996-2001, 2003) and contributed to four World Championships (1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000).

Pitching Coach: Jeff Ware

41, begins his second season as the Tampa Yankees pitching coach. In his first season with Tampa, the pitching staff was 74-64 with a 3.98 ERA with an outstanding performance from LHP Jose Quintana (10-2, 2.91 ERA). Ware spent the previous three seasons with the Charleston RiverDogs and one year with short-season Single-A Staten Island.

Hitting Coach: Justin Turner

32, will be entering his second season as the Tampa Yankees hitting coach after spending one year with the Charleston RiverDogs. Under Turner's first season, Tampa led the league in hits (1249), and triples (45). They were tied for second with a .268 batting average and ranked third with 609 RBI. Turner was originally signed by San Francisco as a non-drafted free agent in 1996.

Coach: Mario Garza

30, begins his second season coaching with the Tampa Yankees after assisting hitters and catchers at Melbourne Central Catholic High School. He was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in 2003 in the 25th round.

Strength and Conditioning Coach: Jay Signorelli

33, is entering his fifth season as the strength and conditioning coordinator with Single-A Tampa. Before joining the Yankees in 2008 he spent two seasons in the Diamondbacks system at short season Single-A Yakima and Single-A Lancaster.

Athletic Trainer: Lee Meyer

28, will be entering his first year with the Tampa Yankees after spending one season as the Charleston RiverDogs trainer, and one season with the short-season Single-A Staten Island Yankees.
