Charlotte Checkers' Justin Peters Named Goaltender Of The Month

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Justin Peters of the Charlotte Checkers has been named the Reebok/AHL Goaltender of the Month for November. In seven appearances during the month, Peters went 5-1-1 with a 1.63 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage.

Peters made 26 saves in a 2-1 win at Grand Rapids on Nov. 5, and stopped 29 of 30 shots in his only defeat of the month, a 1-0 loss at Oklahoma City on Nov. 11. Peters came back with another 29-save effort to defeat the Barons, 3-2, the next night, and turned aside 30 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss to Rockford on Nov. 18. Peters then shined in two periods of relief work on Nov. 20, stopping 25 of 26 shots to help Charlotte past Rockford, 4-3, and he made 34 saves in a 6-3 win at Norfolk on Nov. 23. Peters ended the month with 31 saves in a 5-1 victory over Milwaukee on Nov. 27.

A second-round draft pick by Carolina in 2004, Peters owns a 6-2-1 record in 10 appearances for Charlotte this season, ranking seventh in the AHL with a 2.17 goals-against average and third with a .932 save percentage. The 25-year-old native of Blyth, Ont., is in his sixth professional season and owns a career record of 68-71-7 with six shutouts in 158 AHL appearances. Peters has also played 21 career NHL games with the Hurricanes, going 9-8-1.

In recognition of his achievement, Peters will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Checkers home game.
