Cammarata Commits to Minnesota
November 3, 2011 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Waterloo Black Hawks forward Taylor Cammarata has committed to the University of Minnesota for the 2013-2014 season, the Hawks announced Thursday.
"After growing up in Minnesota, I know what an honor and an opportunity it is to play for the Gophers," Cammarata said. "I look forward to joining a program which has expectations to be one of the top college teams in the country every winter."
After being one of the top scorers in the history of Shattuck-St. Mary's U-16 program, the Black Hawks selected Cammarata with the first overall pick during the 2011 USHL Futures Draft. Although the 16-year-old is one of the youngest players on the Black Hawks' roster, through his first ten games Cammarata paces Waterloo with eight assists and eleven points. He is part of a three-way tie for third among the league's overall scoring leaders.
"I am very happy for Taylor," said Waterloo Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley. "We've already seen that he is very talented, but he still works very hard to make himself better. There are many more good things still ahead of him during his time in Waterloo."
Cammarata is the ninth member of the 2011-2012 Black Hawks to commit to an NCAA Division I institution. Teammate A.J. Michaelson is also a Gophers recruit. Former Black Hawks defensemen Blake Thompson and Chris Student are currently on the Minnesota roster.
