Bay Sox Welcome New President & TreasurerOctober 27, 2011 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) - New Bedford Bay Sox Press Release
The Bay Sox Foundation Board voted unanimously to approve the appointment of Pat, as President, and Beth, as Treasurer, earlier this month. The Board is thrilled to welcome the two as Pat and Beth have years of experience matching and marrying athletics with community, building a sense of pride and loyalty.
"I'm very excited to be joining a terrific team and organization," said Pat, "I'm looking forward to building a positive relationship with the community and growing the fan base. My focus is on building an outreach and delivering fun, quality entertainment at a low price."
For the past 30 years, Pat has been a senior manager with IBM. He and his wife Beth, a high school Spanish teacher, currently live in Vermont and have spent countless hours immersed within their community developing philanthropic activities. The two plan to move to the SouthCoast for the summer months to assist in the daily operations of the Bay Sox.
Ten years ago, Pat's brainchild "Little Fenway" (www.littlefenway.com) was born. "Little Fenway" is a 1/4th scale replica of Boston's Fenway Park located in Pat and Beth's backyard, which is used for wiffle ball charity tournaments.
Shortly after "Little Fenway," "Little Wrigley" came along and he and Beth have grown this endeavor to a multi-million dollar philanthropic entity. They have donated more than $1.2 million to the Travis Roy Foundation and have partnered with the JDRF, Breast Cancer Foundation, American Heart Association Foundation, and many other locally-based organizations.
Bay Sox CEO Robin Wadsworth said, "Pat's organization in Vermont matches and mirrors the Bay Sox operation in New Bedford, right down to the admissions, merchandise, sponsorships, and concessions."
She continued, "Rita and I have been so fortunate to have gotten to know Pat and Beth not just as community-minded individuals, but as people. They are salt of the earth. They are genuine - the real deal."
In addition to overseeing the philanthropic organization, Pat has also authored two books (Little Fenway and Green Mountain Boys of Summer) and numerous articles on the sport of baseball. He has been featured on Chronicle, in Sports Illustrated, and many other media venues over the years.
Pat has deep-rooted relationships within the Major League Baseball community and most definitely within the Red Sox organization. He has been instrumental in building a partnership with the Yawkey Foundation and has befriended former Red Sox greats including Bill Lee, Bernie Carbo and Rick Miller.
