American Hockey League Names New Vice President of Hockey Operations
October 12, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced today that Michael Murray has been named to the position of Vice President of Hockey Operations for the AHL.
Murray, who begins his duties later this month, will take over for Rod Pasma, who has accepted a position in the hockey operations department of the National Hockey League.
Murray will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the league's hockey operations department, including management of the AHL's officiating program, the league's disciplinary process, player registry, compliance with rules and regulations, and scheduling.
"We are excited and fortunate to be bringing Mike on board to lead our hockey operations department," said Andrews. "On behalf of our Board of Governors, I would like to welcome him to the American Hockey League, and also thank Rod for his service and wish him all the best with the NHL."
Murray, 31, comes to the AHL following three seasons with the ECHL, where he most recently served as vice president of hockey operations. An admitted member of the Massachusetts Bar, Murray received his bachelor's degree in history from Dartmouth College, where he played varsity hockey for four years, and was awarded his Juris Doctor cum laude from Suffolk University Law School in Boston.
In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for the players, coaches, managers, executives and broadcasters of all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 83 percent of today's NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the 10th year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2010-11.
