Ottawa Civic Centre Now Officialy J. Benson Cartage Centre

(Ottawa ON.): The Ottawa 67's today announced that the Civic Centre is now officially the J. Benson Cartage Centre. The name change is the result of an annual naming rights promotion which was won by J. Benson Cartage in an on-ice draw during the team's first home game of the season on Sept. 23rd.

"We are ecstatic that a local small business has won the naming rights promotion," said 67's Owner and Governor Jeff Hunt. "It gives J. Benson Cartage a level of exposure in the marketplace that just isn't available to 'the little guy' and so we're very happy for Jeff Benson and his family."

Based in the Ottawa suburb of Metcalfe, J. Benson Cartage has been serving the local construction and excavation industries since 1998. The company is also involved in snow removal and serves the community by sponsoring the annual Metcalfe Fair and local minor hockey tournaments.

"I was actually helping to prep the horse show surface for the Metcalfe Fair when our name was announced as the contest winner," said Jeff Benson, owner of J. Benson Cartage. "When I heard the news, I couldn't believe it. I remember watching the 67's when Jimmy Fox was their on-ice leader and then the Senators when they played in the building in the early 1990's. It's a privilege and an honour to have our name on such a storied arena."

The J. Benson Cartage name is now embedded in the centre ice faceoff circle of the former Civic Centre. It will soon be part of the Lansdowne Park marquis facing Bank Street and will be part of all 67's outbound communications until July 1, 2012.

This year's naming rights promotion was the team's third annual. They received dozens of entries from a wide-range of local and national brand companies and the entry "fee" was the purchase of two 67's season tickets and a suite night. The 67's estimate the promotional value of the prize to be in excess of $250,000.
