Royals Announce 2011-12 Game Night Promotion Schedule

September 20, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced the team's 2011-12 Promotional Schedule of Game Night Events and Special Giveaways. Consistent with this season's theme, 'It's More than Hockey...It's Fun!,' the Royals will celebrate the team's eleventh season with a fun-filled promotional schedule packed with special events and giveaways, including many traditional fan favorites and several new 'wrinkles' and a bunch of smiles. All thirty-six home games this season for the Royals will feature a special event, and the organization and its partners will present no fewer than twenty home games this year with giveaways or contests. The full 2011-12 Game Night Promotional Events and Special Giveaways calendar is set out below.

The excitement this season begins and ends with a celebration of our most important asset-our fans-in bookending Fan Appreciation Nights. The home opener pits the Royals and our traditional playoff nemesis, the Cincinnati Cyclones, at the Sovereign Center on Saturday, October 22 (7:05 pm). That night, the first 5,000 fans will receive a 32-ounce "refillable" souvenir cup courtesy of Harrisburg International Airport. As with last season, fans will be able to bring that cup back to the Sovereign Center and use it at every Royals home game this season to fill with their favorite non-alcoholic beverage at a special price. At the other end of the season-in the team's final regular season home game on March 31, 2012 against the Trenton Titans-the Royals will once again celebrate our fans with a night chocked full of giveaways, including a team poster courtesy of the Reading Eagle for the 5,000 fans in attendance.

The Royals opening weekend includes the first of six Sunday afternoon home games this season, which now start at 4:05 pm and have been designated 'Family Days,' which means big bargains on hot dogs, soda, popcorn and nachos ($1.00 each courtesy of Berks Packing). Sundays with the Royals this season will certainly be special for the youngsters, as all six Sunday games will feature a giveaway for fans twelve years of age and younger. The Sunday kids giveaways this season include a jigsaw puzzle (courtesy of Perfetto Insurance Agency), an autograph book (courtesy of Classic Harley-Davidson), a winter cap (courtesy of Diamond Credit Union), a Slapshot pin, a cereal bowl, and a replica warm-up jersey (courtesy of V&M Towing). Every Sunday game will also feature either a full team autograph session for the kids or a post-game skate with the players.

The Royals' schedule also boasts two weekday matinee special 'Kids Days,' so the youngsters (and everyone else) can enjoy some great hockey action on their day off from school (or work) with 1:05 pm start times on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday (Monday, January 16), when the first 1,000 kids will receive a Kids Day notebook courtesy of CTCE Federal Credit Union; and on President's Day (February 20), when everybody can hit the ice after the game for a post-game skate with the players.

This season, the Royals will once again honor the contributions of some of the more significant members of our organization starting on Saturday, October 29, when we'll celebrate 'The Legend,' Head Coach Larry Courville. That night, for the first time in Royals' history, the team will retire a players' number, as 'Ol Number 22' will head to the rafters in honor of the years that Coach Courville spent on the ice wearing the 'double-deuce' in purple, silver and black. Fans will be able to commemorate that night with a beer glass featuring Coach Courville's likeness, which will be given to the first 1,500 adults twenty-one years of age and over.

Adults can add another special beer glass to their collection on Friday, February 10, 2012, when the Royals will induct long-time equipment manager, Pat Noecker, into the Reading Eagle Wall of Honor. Patty's likeness (and his uncanny resemblance to Tim Lincecum-we're still trying to figure out how he pitched in the World Series last year and at the same time was able to keep the Royals' gear so perfectly in tact) will be commemorated on a beer glass for the first 1,500 fans twenty-one and older.

The Royals will also honor some of the more important members of our community on several game nights this season. The list of local heroes this season includes teachers (Educator Appreciation Night" on Friday, January 20) and members of local law enforcement and their fine-furry partners ('Pucks 'N Paws Night' presented by the Berks County Sheriffs Department on Friday, December 2). The team also hosts the seventh rendition of the "Battle of the Badges" on Sunday, February 26, when the respective hockey teams from the Reading and Berks County law enforcement and fire departments face-off in their annual showdown prior to the Royals' game that afternoon against the Greenville Road Warriors.

Also, consistent with the team's tradition, the boys will also don special jerseys on several occasions this season, which will be auctioned off after the game to raise funds for a charitable cause. The team will try to stay under the radar by draping themselves in camouflage on Sunday, November 13, when the Royals will honor our nation's veterans and host a post-game auction of their game-worn 'purple and black camouflage' jerseys for the benefit of the Wounded Warrior Project. On Saturday, January 21, we'll turn to 'Joe Pa' blue and white for the second year in a row as the Royals in conjunction with the Berks County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association will raise funds for THON and the continuing effort to cure childhood cancer. And, of course, the Royals will try to keep our record 'perfect in pink' on February 18, when the real men will put on their favorite (or at least most successful) color in our annual Pink in the Rink game, as we raise funds for Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County and the continuing effort to cure breast cancer.

This season, the Royals will also kick off a brand new series of week night celebrations of institutions of higher learning-or perhaps a little break from higher learning-with four 'College Nights' when select draft beer will be only $2.00 beginning on Thursday, October 27. That night, the first 1,500 fans will also get one of the all-time favorite collector's edition giveaways, the 2011-12 schedule magnet, courtesy of Deibler Dental. Other classic giveaways this season include a Royals' t-shirt (courtesy of Metro Bank on November 12), a lottery ticket (eighteen years of age and older courtesy of the Pennsylvania Lottery on November 25), and the team trading card set (courtesy of Rieck's Printing on March 10).

On Turn Back the Clock Night, December 28, the Royals will also give away a trip to some lucky fan to the 2013 NHL Winter Classic, who can head right down the road to the City of Brotherly Love at Citizens Bank Park to watch the Flyers take on the New York Rangers. And we'd be more than happy to make another fan's wallet $10,000 heavier on St. Hat Trick's Night on March 17-and all we'd need to pull that off is to get one of our snipers to make it rain with a three goal explosion that night against the Wheeling Nailers.

The eleventh season of Royals hockey will also see some not so traditional giveaways for our fans, including a 'just in time for Thanksgiving' post-game 'I Hate Turkey' Pizza Shoot on Wednesday, November 23. Fans can also pick up a snow globe courtesy of Classic Harley-Davidson on Saturday, December 17, and a lunch bag courtesy of Diamond Credit Union on February 25. And, although it's about as traditional as you can get on a certain level, it's also kind of hard predict what fans might see during the team's first ever celebration of Pennsylvania Dutch culture on December 30, which will get going with Happy Hour in 'The Corner' from 6:00 until 7:30 pm.

The Royals current list of 2011-12 Game Night Promotional Events and Special Giveaways is set out below. More information on the contests described in this release will be forthcoming at more relevant dates. Please note that this promotional schedule is subject to change.
