Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg, VA- The Hillcats beat the Winston-Salem Dash 7-2 on Saturday night. The highlight of the game came from Joey Terdoslavich, who hit a double in the first inning to tie the Carolina League record for doubles in a season.

The Hillcats and Dash exchanged runs in the first inning. In the top half of the inning, Ian Gac stepped to the palte with runners on first and second and one out. He singled, driving home Juan Silverio to give the Dash the early lead.

The Hillcats responded in the bottom half of the inning. Keenan Wiley stood on first with two outs as Joey Terdoslavich stepped up to the plate. Terdoslavich hit a line drive down the right field line.

Wiley came around to score and Terdoslavich cruised into second. The double, his 51st of the season, tied a 65-year old Carolina League record, set in 1946 by Woody Fair of Durham.

Terdoslavich struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning. Leading off the inning, he hit a home run to dead center field that cleared the batter's eye and gave the Hillcats a 2-1 lead.

The Dash had a response of their own in the top of the fifth. Tyler Saladino was hit by a pitch, and then moved to third on a double by Andy Wilkins. Ian Gac drove in another RBI by hitting a fly ball to right field, deep enough to score Saladino and tie the game.

The Hillcats took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Ryan Query led off the inning with a walk, and L.V. Ware followed with a single, putting runners on the corners. Wiley hit a fly ball to left, and though Luis Sierra barely had to move, it was deep enough to score Query. Andrelton Simmons followed with a double. Ware came in to score, and the Hillcats went up 4-2.

Lynchburg added three more in the bottom of the sixth inning. Six batters reached base in the inning, including an RBI triple by Shawn McGill, his first triple in affiliated baseball. When the dust cleared, the Hillcats led 7-2, which held up as the final score.

Gary Moran (2-1) earned the win for the Hillcats, pitching six innings and striking out six. Cameron Bayne (12-8) took the loss for Winston-Salem. Lynchburg is now 29-37 in the second half, while the Dash fell to 36-32.

In addition to the history made by Terdoslavich, the Hillcats broke their single-season attendance record, set in 2007. After Saturday night's game, the Hillcats have welcomed 166,436 fans through the gates at City Stadium.

The second to last game of the season will be played at City Stadium on Sunday night. Newcomer Matt Talley will make his first start for Lynchburg, and the Dash will sent out Matt Wickswat (5-6). First pitch is at 6:05 pm, and the gates will open at 5.
