66ers Drop a Dozen on Lake Elsinore

August 31, 2011 - California League (CalL1)
Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Lake Elsinore, CA-Inland Empire (66-68, 34-30) avoided a post playoff clinch hangover and evened the race for home field advantage with the Lake Elsinore Storm (66-68, 34-30) by beating their southern division rivals 12-8 Tuesday night. Kole Calhoun paced the offense with a three hit game including a mammoth home run. Early on it seemed the 6am arrival time after Monday night's playoff sealing victory in Stockton may have taken its toll. The 66ers trailed 4-0 after two innings, and had been no hit to that point. But the 66ers flipped a switch in the 4th and turned things around. A two run single by Travis Witherspoon tied the game at four, and then a two run triple by Kole Calhoun gave the 66ers a five run frame and their first lead of the game at 6-4.

Lake Elsinore came back to tie the game on a home run by Nate Freiman in the 5th and would move in front on an Eddy Rodriguez single, but the lead was short lived. Kole Calhoun hit one of the longest home runs of the season over the 30 plus feet tall right field wall to re-tie the game at eight, and then Carlos Ramirez put the 66ers up for good with an RBI double.

Down the stretch the 66ers offense added three more runs, but the real late inning story was the five scoreless frames pitched by Inland Empire's bullpen. Kevin Nabors was fantastic in his three innings of work, which resulted in him gaining his second win of the season. Mike Kenney got the final six outs and was rewarded with his sixth save.

Inland Empire can move ahead of Lake Elsinore with a win Wednesday night at the Storm. The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians pre-game show begins at 5:55 pm on AM 1050 KCAA with a first pitch time of 6:05 pm. Inland Empire returns home for the final series of the regular season on Friday. It will be a Toyota and Scion of Redlands 50 Cent Friday. The home stand also includes Heroes Night on Saturday, September 3rd with a post game fireworks extravaganza.
