Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - On Saturday, Rush defenseman Riley Weselowski and broadcaster Daniel Nieves teamed up with Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity (BHAHFH) for a fundraiser at Dublin's. Auctioning of numerous items and accepting donations with an original goal of $3,000, the duo was able to raise over $5,500 at the event. All of the money collected will stay in the Black Hills Area to assist people in need of affordable houses.

"The Rush Habitat benefit event at Dublin's exceeded our expectations, but not our confidence in the overwhelming generosity of Rapid City Rush fans," said BHAHFH Executive Scott Engmann. "The energy, the entertainment and the amazing auction items from BH Harley Davidson, Red Rock Golf Club, as well as Riley and Daniel all came together to make the night a great success. Times are tight for Habitat, and the funds generated from this event will go straight to work to pay for materials on our Pecan lane homes currently underway."

The night featured live entertainment from Weselowski, along with his brothers Taylor and singer/songwriter Mason Weselowski.

Items auctioned off included 'Color Commentator for a Game', 'Assistant Coach for a Game', and a one-of-a-kind Riley Weselowski #6 Bemidji State University jersey that fetched a $1,600 price.

"I was very happy with the turnout we had," said Weselowski. "I want to thank everyone that had any involvement in putting this great event on. Of course, I'd love to thank anyone that donated in any way, whether it was through the auction or just donating at the door. Also, I want to thank my brothers for coming down from Canada and playing, we couldn't have had such a great evening without them."

The pair will continue to raise money leading up to the Crazy Horse Marathon on October 2nd, with Nieves running the half-marathon and Weselowski running his second full marathon. Last year, Weselowski ran the Kroll's Diner Marathon in order to raise money for the Ryan Christian Love Fund.

Over the past five years, Black Hills Habitat has spent an average of over $180,000 a year with local suppliers of building materials. In 2010, volunteers worked over 15,000 hours for a total value of $157,000. The total value of Habitat homes is over $7 million.
