Mallards Sign Veteran Snowden

MOLINE, Ill. (August 23, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have signed right wing John Snowden. Per team policy, no contract terms were announced.

Snowden, 29, scored 19 goals and totaled 36 points in 66 games with the Bloomington PrairieThunder last season. The Everett, Washington, native was acquired by Bloomington in a trade with the Dayton Gems early in the 2009-10 campaign, a season that saw Snowden score 29 goals and produce 58 points in 74 International Hockey League games.

"John is a big, solid body and is a proven point producer at this level," said Mallards head coach and general manager David Bell. "He can pound the puck and will instantly help our power play."

The 6' 0", 210-pound Snowden is closing in on his two hundredth career goal. The 11-year veteran has scored 198 times and piled up 414 points in 548 career games with 12 teams in the American Hockey League, German Oberliga, ECHL, IHL and CHL.

Snowden has topped 20 goals five times and has twice scored more than 30 goals in a season. Snowden set a career high for goals when he scored 37 times (and recorded 62 points) for the ECHL's Texas Wildcatters in 2004-05. The following season he established another career high by registering 64 points as a member of the ECHL's Greenville Grrrowl.

Snowden has played in the AHL for the Utah Grizzlies (in 2004-05) and Norfolk Admirals (2005-06).

Before turning pro, Snowden spent three seasons in the junior ranks with the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League.

Snowden joins Obi Aduba, Jared Brown, Brad Fogal, Eric Giosa, Joel Gasper, Jason Kostadine, Karl Linden, Brandon Marino, David McKee, Darren McMillan, Bobby Preece and Quinn Waller to bring the number of signings announced by the Mallards for the 2011-12 season to 13.

The 2011-12 Mallards will see their first game action when they take the ice at the i wireless Center along with the Bloomington Blaze, Evansville IceMen and Missouri Mavericks for the Icebreaker on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16. The Mallards will open their second CHL regular season on home ice on Saturday night, October 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.
