12th Inning Homer Dooms Augusta in 3-2 Loss

Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The Kannapolis Intimidators didn't get their first lead until the 12th inning, but when they did get the lead they made it count. Trayce Thompson's solo home run was the difference-maker for Kannapolis in a 3-2 win over the Augusta GreenJackets on Monday night.
With two outs in the 12th, Thompson took Austin Fleet (7-5) deep for his 24th home run of the year to move to within two of the league lead in the category and give Kannapolis a one-run lead. Adam Duvall reached on a catcher's interference call to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the inning, but Josh Mazzola flew out and Devin Harris hit into a game-ending double play to preserve the win for Kannapolis. Jake Wilson (4-2) held on through two scoreless innings to get the win for the Intimidators.
Mazzola gave the GreenJackets a 1-0 lead in the fourth with his 13th home run of the year, a solo shot over the left field wall. For a long time, it stood as the lone run in a pitchers' duel between Augusta's Ryan Bradley and Kannapolis's Brad Furnish. Bradley fired 6.2 scoreless innings - a season-high - and allowed six hits while striking out six. Furnish also set a new season-high with six innings of one-run baseball on five hits and a walk while striking out four.
The Intimidators tied things in the eighth on a two-out RBI single by Keenyn Walker to even things at one. Augusta struck back in the bottom of the eighth and took a 2-1 lead on Mazzola's sacrifice fly after Ryan Lollis doubled and Duvall reached on a bunt single to put men at the corners with no outs. Kannapolis would tie the game once more in the ninth. Brett Bochy allowed back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners before a double play ball brought home the tying run. It was the first time in eight tries that Bochy has blown a save for the GreenJackets.
Augusta had the winning run on in the ninth and tenth innings and twice in the 11th, but couldn't convert for a win that would've moved them to within a game of first place.
The GreenJackets will try to bounce back on Tuesday with Mario Rodriguez (7-5, 4.66) getting his first start since May to face righty Phil Negus (4-0, 2.90). First pitch comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
