Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

EASTLAKE, OH - The Fort Wayne TinCaps scored early and scored often on Saturday night, and the result was a 9-4 victory over the Lake County Captains, in the opening game of a four-game series at Classic Park.

Fort Wayne took an early lead in the very first inning, as Connor Powers hit a three-run home run off Captain starting pitcher Felix Sterling to give the TinCaps a 3-0 lead.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Lake County tied the score in the bottom of the first, thanks to a three-run blast by Ronny Rodriguez against Fort Wayne starting pitcher Todd Privett.

Ronny Rodriguez hit his second home run of the night in the bottom of the third inning to give the Captains a 4-3 lead.

The score remained 4-3 until Powers hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot over the wall in left field off Lake County relief pitcher Joey Mahalic in the top of the sixth inning that put the TinCaps back on top by a score of 5-4.

They would score two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to account for the game's final score.

Privett (3-2) pitched the first six innings and collected the win, while Mahalic (0-5) suffered the loss.

Fort Wayne has now won eight of their last nine contests, and 12 of their last 15.

They'll attempt to make it two wins in a row over the Captains when the teams meet again on Sunday evening.

Mark Hardy (9-9, 2.92) will make the start for the TinCaps, while J.D. Reichenbach (6-1, 3.35) will go to the mound for Lake County.
