Donovan and Castro Spark JetHawks Win
August 20, 2011 - California League (CalL) Lancaster JetHawks
(STOCKTON, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks appear to be relishing its role as the spoiler. The JetHawks defeated the Stockton Ports 4-2 Friday night, their second straight win at Banner Island Ballpark, preventing the Ports once again from moving into first place in the Northern Division Second Half race. The Ports hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead and starter Jacob Brown took a perfect game into the fifth inning. However, the JetHawks came back with a big blow of their own. Jonathan Singleton legged out an infield single and Jonathan Meyer walked to set up Erik Castro. The JetHawks DH blasted a three-run homer into the Lancaster bullpen to put the JetHawks up 3-2.
After allowing the early home runs, JetHawks starter Robby Donovan settled in to pitch six solid innings with six strikeouts. Shane Wolf followed with two perfect innings of relief, striking out the 200th batter of his Lancaster career along the way. Kirk Clark closed the game out for his second save in as many nights and 19th of the season.
It is the first time the JetHawks have won back-to-back games since the 14th and 15th of July.
The JetHawks will look to make it three straight wins Saturday night in Stockton. Andrew Robinson (5-9) will start for Lancaster against Rob Gilliam (12-6) of the Ports. The game starts at 7:05 and will be broadcast live on radio by 87.7 Kickin' Country and online at CSN at JetHawks.com (click the listen live link). The Pre-Game Show starts at 6:50.
