Winterhawks Sign Joey Baker
August 15, 2011 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks have signed 18-year-old forward Joey Baker. The Winterhawks had originally placed Baker on their protected list last September.
Baker, 6'3", 190 pounds, played 57 games for the Trail Smoke Eaters of the British Columbia Hockey League last season, and scored four goals and added eight assists for 12 points in 57 games. He was also ranked on the National Hockey League Central Scouting Bureau's ratings throughout last season.
"Joey is a big kid who skates well and is a player I believe is just starting to reach his potential," said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. "I'm looking forward to seeing how he develops in our environment."
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to make the jump to the WHL and join a championship contender," said Baker. "I watched the Winterhawks in the WHL Finals last season and want to help the team get back there this season."
Season tickets for the 2011-12 season are on sale now. Fans can call 503-236-HAWK or email seats@winterhawks.com to book their seats.
