Rapids Host Champions League Opener on Wednesday

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Monday, August 15, 2011) - The Colorado Rapids have a busy week, starting with the CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage opener against Isidro Metapán this Wednesday, August 17 at 8:00 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids will then face Chivas USA in MLS regular season action on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., again at DSGP.
Wednesday's match against Isidro Metapán of El Salvador is the Rapids' first game in the CONCACAF Champions League, an annual tournament which features the top club teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean. The Group Stage consists of six matches, with Colorado taking on Isidro Metapán of El Salvador, Real España of Honduras, and Santos Laguna of Mexico at home and on the road. Saturday's match against Chivas USA will see the Rapids (10-6-10, 40 points) looking to extend a three match winning streak. Chivas (7-8-9, 30 points) has lost just once in their last eight games and currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference, two spots behind the Rapids.
