'Birds Fly Away with Series

Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - The Redbirds finished off a four-game sweep of the I-Cubs with a 2-1 victory Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.

'Birds starter Brandon Dickson shook off a leadoff home run by Iowa center fielder Brett Jackson in the first inning, not allowing another run in his seven innings pitched. Memphis hurlers outdueled Iowa's pitching on the night as Dickson and relievers Ron Mahay and Victor Marte blanked the Cubs through the other eight innings. Mahay earned his first win for the Redbirds as Marte nailed down his 21st save.

Iowa starter Dave Bush allowed one run on five hits over 6.1 innings of work, walking one and striking out four. Reliever Roberto Coello was the tough-luck loser for Iowa giving up the winning run off a sacrifice fly by Tyler Greene.

The Redbirds hit the road with an eight-game road trip to Reno and Colorado Springs. First pitch in Reno is slated for 9:05 p.m. CT at Aces Ballpark tomorrow night. The 'Birds hand Adam Ottavino the ball to face Aces right-hander Barry Enright. Memphis returns home next weekend on Friday, August 12 to play Tucson.
