Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Dash brought out the heavy lumber and pounded a season-high 20 hits on the way to a dominating 10-3 victory against Potomac on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark. A sell-out crowd of 6,347 witnessed three-hit nights from Tyler Saladino, Jared Mitchell, and Andy Wilkins plus two-hit affairs from five other Dash hitters.

Winston-Salem (13-14, 45-52) started early and often with offense against P-Nats starter Sammy Solis. Saladino led off the first inning with a walk and moved to third when Mitchell doubled. Wilkins then drove home both runners with a double of his own, and later scored when Mike Blanke doubled.

J.R. Higley got the Nationals (16-11, 45-51) on the board with a solo home run off Jake Petricka in the second.

The Dash quickly responded with a run in the bottom of the inning when Saladino, Mitchell, and Wilkins hit successive two-out singles. Wilkins' plated Saladino to put the Dash up 4-1.

The score held until Solis left the game; he gave way to Mitchell Clegg in the fifth. The first six hitters in the inning reached with base hits. Juan Silverio picked up his first BB&T Ballpark single to start the inning. Nick Ciolli and Kyle Colligan followed with singles to load the bases before Daniel Wagner singled in Silverio. Saladino then drove in two runs with a single, and Wagner scored on Mitchell's double. The Dash took a commanding 8-1 lead after five.

Winston wasn't finished there. In the sixth, Silverio, Ciolli, and Colligan had three straight singles to begin the frame. Wagner reached on a fielder's choice that drove in Silverio. Ciolli then scored when Saladino hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

Potomac got on the board twice more in the eighth when Francisco Soriano and Jeff Kobernus reached and scored on groundouts by Destin Hood and Brian Peacock.

Wagner added the 20th Winston-Salem hit of the game in the eighth. The total is a season-high initially set on July 2 in a ten-inning game against Salem.

Petricka (1-4) had a solid start to pick up his first win with Winston-Salem. In six innings, he allowed one run on only three hits and struck out three. Solis (3-1) was hit with the loss after four innings in which he gave up four runs (all earned).

Winston-Salem and Potomac continue their three-game on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark at 7 p.m. LHP Joe Serafin (1-8, 5.61) is scheduled to start for the Dash opposite RHP Paul Demny (6-8, 4.39).
