Wranglers Sign Thomas Kiriakou

Las Vegas, Nev. - The Las Vegas Wranglers(r) announced today that they have agreed to terms with center Thomas Kiriakou (Keer-ee-ah-coo) for the 2011-12 season.

The 6'0, 205-pound center spent the previous two years at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, where he scored 29 points (11g, 18a) and six penalty minutes across 21 games in the 2010-11 season. This will be the first professional season for the 23-year-old.

"I just want to work hard and play hard," Kiriakou said. "If I can do that and make it up to the AHL and NHL, that would be great."

Previous to his time in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) League, the Richmond Hill, Ontario native spent 2005 through 2009 in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Kiriakou racked up 56 goals, 88 assists and 94 penalty minutes across 251 games played.

"Thomas comes to us after having a lot of success in OHL and CIS hockey," Wranglers General Manager and Head Coach Ryan Mougenel said. "Thomas is a big pivot who will play in all situations and give us youth and energy. I'm very excited that he has chosen Vegas to start his young pro career, and he will be a presence in our lineup."

The Wranglers host Opening Night, billed as "The Last Professional Hockey Game on Earth," on Friday, October 21st, 2011 at 7:05 PM against Ontario. 2011-12 season seat packages are on sale now at (702) 471-PUCK. The Wranglers play all 36 regular season home games at the Orleans Area, located adjacent to the Orleans Hotel and Casino at 4500 W. Tropicana Avenue.
