Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Outfielder Trayvon Robinson showed why he was elected to start the Triple-A All-Star Game, belting a pair of homers and driving in five runs, but the Albuquerque Isotopes (42-38) still ended up dropping a wild one to the Omaha Storm Chasers (44-37), 18-13 Thursday night at Werner Park. The ‘Topes have now lost eight straight games, tying the second longest losing streak in team history.

Albuquerque came out of the gate swinging, scoring four runs in the first inning. Eugenio Velez led off the game with a double and scored the first run of the game on an RBI single by Jerry Sands, giving the ‘Topes a quick 1-0 lead. After J.D. Closser reached on a walk, Robinson hammered his first big fly of the game, a monstrous three-run shot to left that put the visitors on top 4-0.

Omaha responded in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer by Kila Ka'aihue before knotting the game with two more in the second and taking the lead in the third on a solo homer by Lorenzo Cain, making the score 5-4 Chasers. A three run blast by Johnny Giavotella in the fourth extended the Omaha lead to 8-4.

The Isotopes roared back in the fifth, plating six runs before the Storm Chasers could even record an out to seize the advantage right back. With Closser on first, Robinson smashed his second homer of the night, this one a two-run shot to right that trimmed the lead to 8-4 Chasers. Russ Mitchell kept the rally going with a walk and John Lindsey added a double, setting up Jamie Hoffmann, who laced a double to center, scoring Mitchell to make the score 8-7 Omaha. Justin Sellers then hammered a three-run homer to left, giving the ‘Topes a 10-8 advantage.

Hoffmann helped provide some breathing room in the sixth, delivering a two-run homer, the Isotopes' fourth of the game, to put the Isotopes on top 12-8.

Things would turn south in a hurry for Albuquerque, however, as Omaha answered with an eight-spot in the bottom of the sixth. Mike Aviles started the uprising with a solo homer before Ka'aihue added a two-run single, Paulo Orlando chipped in a two-run single of his own, before Irving Falu administered the knock-out blow in the form of a three-run homer, Omaha's fifth on the night, to put the Chasers back on top 16-12.

The Isotopes would cut the lead to 16-13 with a run in the seventh, but the Storm Chasers plated two more runs in the bottom of the frame to cruise to an 18-13 victory.

Albuquerque will try and avoid a team-record-tying ninth straight loss with its ace on the mound as lefty All-Star Dana Eveland (7-4, 3.77) takes the hill against Omaha southpaw Mike Montgomery (2-4, 5.83) in a 6:05 PM MT start from Werner Park.

After their series in Omaha, the ‘Topes are back next Monday, July 4 for an seven-game homestand that kicks off with the biggest and best fireworks show of the season. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
