Introducing MAINEiacs Madness 2011

May 20, 2011 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) - Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

The 2010-11 season was the second best campaign in the eight-year history of the Lewiston MAINEiacs, as the team collected 40 regular season wins, before reaching the third round of the President's Cup Playoffs. While 2011-12 will certainly be fun to look ahead to, the MAINEiacs thought it would be fun to look back at the fun times of 2010-11 one more time.

Starting next week, and running through the end of July, you, the fans will be able to experience MAINEiacs Madness 2011! MAINEiacs Madness will be a bracket style tournament, modeled in similar fashion to the NCAA basketball tournament that takes place each March (March Madness). Radio broadcaster DJ Abisalih has gone back through the season, and has picked the top 48 moments from the 2010-11 season, placing each of them into a slot on the bracket. The 48 moments are separated into six miniature brackets (regions, if you use the NCAA basketball terminology), which are named after six of the most notable players in MAINEiacs history. Each miniature bracket will consist of three head-to-head rounds (bringing the final total to six), which will be voted on by the fans via e-mail. The final six will then go onto a poll on the team's website, where fans will choose the top moment from the 2010-11 season.

The bracket was constructed by placing similar moments together, that way each different type of moment will have a chance to show its true best in the spotlight. For example, hat tricks are matched up against each other, overtime games are matched up against each other, and playoff games are matched up against each other.

The voting will begin on Monday, May 23rd, when the first 12 match-ups will be revealed in Take 5 With Lewy's Legion. Voting for that round will run until Sunday, June 5th. On Monday, June 6th, the other 12 first round match-ups will be revealed, with voting running until Sunday, June 19th. All 12 second round match-ups will be revealed on Monday, June 20th, with voting running until Sunday, July 3rd. On Monday, July 4th, the six third round match-ups will be revealed, with voting running until Sunday, July 17th. Finally, on the morning of Monday, July 18th, the top six will be put onto the website's poll, with voting running until Sunday, July 31st, before the top moment is announced via Take 5 With Lewy's Legion on Monday, August 1st.

There will be one vote permitted per e-mail address, and fans will be able to vote by either replying to the Take 5 With Lewy's Legion e-mails, or by sending a separate e-mail to maineiacspr@gmail.com.

Enjoy the madness, and happy voting!

CHECKING IN WITH LEWY

Lewy hit the books at the beginning of the week, counting all of the season tickets and flex packages that were sold for the 2011-12 season during the Alumni Loyalty pricing period. Thanks to a late surge of over 200 during the last few days of the offer, the final tally ended up at 448. Lewy is thankful for those of you that took advantage of this terrific offer, and if you haven't gotten your season tickets or flex packages yet, you can still get a great deal, which can be seen below in the "2011-12 Season Ticket Information" section of today's Take 5 With Lewy's Legion.

The 2011 Mastercard Memorial Cup begins tonight, and Lewy wants to wish the Saint John Sea Dogs "Happy Hunting," as they look to become just the second QMJHL team in eleven years (Quebec Remparts in 2006) to take home the CHL's grand prize. Saint John will play in the tournament's opening game tonight at 7:00, when they face the host Mississauga St. Michael's Majors of the OHL. The Sea Dogs will also play on Tuesday at 7:00 against the OHL's Owen Sound Attack, before concluding their round robin schedule on Wednesday at 7:00 against the WHL's Kootenay Ice.

Lewy is working on planning a fundraising golf event in conjunction with the team's home opener in the fall. Stay tuned for details!

Lewy would be interested in hearing about any birthdays or special occasions being celebrated by MAINEiacs fans. To share yours, simply send an e-mail to bschurman@lewistonhockey.com.

BECOME A BILLET

The MAINEiacs are creating a list of families who are interested in being billets for the 2011-12 season. Billet families are important to the MAINEiacs and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, as they serve as "homes away from home" for the players during the season.

For more information on becoming a billet, please contact Bill Schurman at bschurman@lewistonhockey.com.
