MAINEiacs Weekend Fix

May 6, 2011 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) - Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Summer is now in full swing for the Lewiston MAINEiacs, and Lewy, LA's favorite mascot, has been going all around town, checking out exciting events and dynamic deals that can be enjoyed by all MAINEiacs fans! He is also keeping hockey on the front of his brain, reminding the locals that 2011-12 will be a special season in Androscoggin County!

This morning, Lewy made his way to Geiger School, helping to kick off their summer reading program. Lewy loves to read, especially when he is reading about MAINEiacs wins!

On Saturday, the American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive at the Auburn Mall from 9am-2pm. Lewy wants to remind you that donating blood is important, as you could help to save a life.

Now that the season on the ice is over, lots of hockey people tend to make their way to the local golf courses, and Lewy is no different. Prospect Hill Golf Course is offering a coupon in the Sun Journal (partners of your Lewiston MAINEiacs) for May 13th and 14th. If you pay full price, 50% of the fee will be donated to Edward Little High School's Project Graduation. Also, be sure to check out the Sun Journal for details on Emerson Toyota's (partners of your Lewiston MAINEiacs) golf event at Poland Springs, which will benefit high school football.

Theatre is also one of Lewy's hobbies, as he frequently makes his way to the Public Theatre (partners of your Lewiston MAINEiacs). From May 6th-15th, the Public Theatre will be staging BEAUJEST. For more information on this, call (207)-782-3200.

Back at the arena, Roger Jutras stopped by to see Lewy, while purchasing two season tickets for the 2011-12 season, taking advantage of the "Alumni Loyalty" pricing options. That offer is available to all current season ticket and flex package holders through May 16th. Thanks to all that have taken advantage of this offer, and we look forward to seeing more of you in the near future!

Also, at the rink, equipment manager Matt Flaherty has cleaned the locker room so well that you could practically eat off of the floor! Matt is making sure that everything is in place and ready to go when the players arrive in Lewiston to start training camp in August. Can you believe that training camp is already a little more than three months away'!

Even closer than training camp is the QMJHL Entry Draft, which will take place on June 4th in Victoriaville. Last summer, the MAINEiacs made lots of noise at the draft in Drummondville, and Lewy has been in touch with Assistant General Manager Tim Schurman and Associate Coach Darren Rumble, who are scouting future MAINEiacs in Montreal this weekend.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, the Saint John Sea Dogs took a 1-0 series lead over the Gatineau Olympiques last night with a 2-1 victory at Harbour Station. Danick Gauthier and Simon Despres scored for Saint John, while Hubert Labrie picked up Gatineau's lone tally. Lewy caught the game on TELUS (partners of your Lewiston MAINEiacs), and is looking forward to watching the rest of this tight series.

On the local sports scene, Lewy has been a regular visitor of Gippers (partners of your Lewiston MAINEiacs) to watch his Boston Red Sox on the tube. Because he is about the size of "Big Papi" David Ortiz, Lewy has to sit in the back, that way he doesn't block the TV!

Lewy is also jumping for joy, watching the Boston Bruins in the playoffs! The Bruins currently lead their best-of-seven series with the Philadelphia Flyers 3-0, with game four taking place tonight in Boston. The B's have been getting lots of help from QMJHL graduates Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Brad Marchand, and Michael Ryder. With 33 current QMJHL players listed on NHL Central Scouting's final rankings, there's a good chance that a few future Bruins will be skating through Lewiston next season!

The MAINEiacs would also like to congratulate Jim Wellehan, the owner of Lamey-Wellehan, as he was named as Auburn's Citizen of the Year. The award presentation took place on Thursday at Lost Valley, and was attended by MAINEiacs personnel.
